This Accredited qualification is ideal for learners who require further training or wish to develop knowledge and/or skills in this subject area. It is suitable for first aiders in the workplace environment who have access to a defibrillator. The qualification maintains good practice in the safe, prompt and effective administration of cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillation. The topics are regarded by the Early Years Foundation Stage as being important to maintaining good practice in the safe, prompt and effective treatment of injuries and ill health of infants and children who are under the care of trained personnel.

This qualification is assessed trough practical and oral questioning through the duration of the course by the tutor with a 15-question multiple-choice examination of 30 minutes at the end. Learners must demonstrate the application of the correct techniques in all the First Aid areas indicated within the learning outcomes of the unit.

Day 1 includes Introduction to Paediatric First Aid, Roles and Responsibilities, Assessing an emergency situation, Managing an Unresponsive Infant or Child, Respiratory System, Wounds and Bleeding, Shock. Day 2 includes Managing Paediatric Illness and Injuries, Fractures and dislocations, Dealing with Minor Injuries, Dealing with Illness, Other Injuries.
Practical observation: the practical assessment is completed throughout the course delivery. This ongoing assessment will involve learners demonstrating practical first aid skills across a number of areas.
Written/Oral questioning: learners are required to answer a series of questions ensuring their understanding of the theory content is sufficient to meet the required standard. All learners will be issued with a certificate of attendance valid for 3 years.
The qualification is valid for 3 years, after which point learners will need to resit the full 2 day course. It is recommended that learners refresh their knowledge annually.

Whenever there is a shooting, stabbing or bomb explosion, the initial priority is understandably to ensure public safety, which can unfortunately cause delays to the emergency services being able to reach the injured.
The QA Level 2 Award in citizenAID (RQF) has been specifically developed to help members of the public learn life-saving skills for use in these extreme situations. Based on the citizenAID phone App and pocket guide, this regulated qualification is designed to teach people how to react safely, prioritise the injured and give first aid to victims in the event of a deliberate multiple casualty incident.
During this 3 hour course, candidates will have the opportunity to practise techniques for dealing with catastrophic bleeding and will be equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to save lives in the aftermath of a terrorist attack.
